Distractions: the Outlander Version

A promise was made. After I finished the last season of Jane the Virgin, I would take a break from TV.

I want to read more. I want to write more. I want my brain to recover from the overstimulation that is the average day to day.

The show ended and I kept my promise.

For two days.

And then I restarted Outlander. There are a gazillion new shows that I keep meaning to get to, and somehow I’m watching Outlander again, and not talking the TV break I promised myself either.

One of the shows I watched and loved recently was called Siempre Bruja (translation: Always A Witch). It has all the TV show elements I tend to love. A mystery, a love story, time travel, magic, beautiful people and scenery, character development… I loved it.

I also loved that it was in Spanish and I was exposing myself to the language more.

My next big trip will be to Spain, and as I did before going to France, I’m trying to increase my familiarity with the language before going.

Even if all I can do is exchange pleasantries, I want to be able to do that.

Thus, I’ve restarted Outlander, and this time, I’m watching it with the audio in Spanish.

So I’m watching TV when I promised myself I wouldn’t for a while, but I’m doing it in a way I can convince myself is educational. It’s not a waste of time! Honest!
