Day 54: Commitments

It is Monday morning and I haven’t left the house since Friday morning. This is not how I want my period of unemployment to look.

Today is the first day of the week. After I was let go last Tuesday, I decided to take until today to get organized.

My achievements for last week include:

  • Filing for unemployment,
  • Figuring out health insurance options and making a decision,
  • Reaching out to my network to let everyone know I’m available for employment opportunities,
  • Taking amazing care of myself physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I did great work last week. I am well-situated now to redirect my focus.

It is time to start the job search.

This will, naturally, start off with an overhaul of my resume. I plan to start (hopefully finish?) this effort today.

I also am making certain commitments to myself about what I wish this period of unemployment to look like. I hereby commit to the following. I will:

  1. Make sure to leave the house at least once per day. Appointments, social engagements, and errands count. Taking out the trash and going to the gym do not.
  2. Stick with the solid morning routines I know work for me. Wake up with an alarm. Have a healthy breakfast. Relax with coffee. Then, get to work on the search.
  3. Maintain a 9-5 M-F work schedule and allow myself to relax during evenings and weekends.
  4. Continue moving my body for at least 30 minutes 5x per week.
  5. Eat healthy, nourishing foods.

Realizing I haven’t left the house in days did not make me feel good. I deserve to feel good.

I do not know how long unemployment will last. It might be one month or it could be years. I will commit now to setting out as I mean to continue, and adhering to the list I’ve created.
